Academic Program

TRIS provides a comprehensive curriculum for K-12 students as directed by the California Department of Education and in compliance with Common Core standards. Our teachers plan and implement lessons with intentional focus on collaborative learning, emphasizing critical thinking and practical application of skills. Some of our key program characteristics are as follows:

Language Arts Program

Our Language Arts courses are built around compelling and meaningful works of literature, including novels, short stories, and poetry. By contextualizing great works of literature with modern usage and age-appropriate sensibility, our teachers bring the lessons of literature alive for our students.  Recognizing that the majority of our students are approaching reading from a non-native perspective, we carefully scaffold our Language Arts learning to ensure that their understanding of deeper concepts is not limited by a comparative lack of familiarity with English usage.

Mathematics

Performance tasks, assessments, and Common Core practice problems are embedded throughout the program. As current research recommends, our mathematics concepts are taught through a holistic lens, incorporating science and technological aspects as well.  All mathematics courses focus on real-world applications and stress the appropriate use of technology, including instruction facilitated through smartboard methodology in most cases. Beginning with a foundation in Singapore Maths in the Elementary Grades, our upper level courses range from Pre-Algebra through Advanced Placement Calculus and statistics, as well as other application-based elective courses.

Science

The TRIS science curriculum seeks to bring exciting and effective science activities into school classrooms in conjunction with current STEM concepts. It focuses on collaborative activities in the laboratory, and integrated with the California Standards Curriculum. These activities enable students to understand pivotal science concepts and to develop inquiry skills needed in their academic life.

Values

Our Values program provides students with a consistent, unified set of moral and ethical values. In conjunction with our Mission, our Values program seeks to prepare students for joyful service to society.

Adventurers / Pathfinders

The Adventurer and Pathfinder classes, or Pathfinders club, is a department of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which works specifically with the cultural, social and religious education of children and teens.

ESL

The ESL program is designed to increase fluency in students with limited English ability.  Students are given special English training in preparation for mainstream classes.  Smaller class size and specialized coursework and instruction enable a smooth and rapid transition to the standard curriculum.

Learning Support

TRIS is committed to the belief that all students can be successful. Through our caring approach and collaborative partnership among teachers, learning support staff, and parents, we foster an environment that is specialized for each individual student’s particular needs.

Athletics

At TRIS, the development of physical abilities and life-long good health habits are considered to be just as important as expertise in academic pursuits.  Through physical education, health, and competitive athletic teams, students joyfully learn to assess and to challenge their physical boundaries.  TRIS is fortunate to provide such activities to all of our students, regardless of natural ability, and we are also blessed to field multiple championship teams in various sports in the competitive Greater Bangkok Athletic Conference.
